The director of any museum is responsible for shaping the direction and vision of the institution, but as director of UMMA—inextricable linked with the learning environment of the University—my voice is one of many. What makes UMMA a unique part of the university and the community as a whole is the degree to which students are engaged with every aspect of the museum; this participation ranges from attending the monthly jazz series and participating in an evening of Fluxus performances, to leading gallery tours and serving on our Student Programming and Advisory Council. This blog is another venue of engagement and expression, and I am consistently inspired by the insight of our students’ voices. I’m excited to have your continued involvement, and I hope you’ll visit often for news of upcoming exhibitions and events, and to leave feedback on what matters most to you at the Museum. The Annex is another gateway for you to enter—and become a part of—the world of art available to you at UMMA.
